The town officers met at noon the following day and resolved to enter the matter in the minute book. The ferry was open as usual.

Lindenmar. A cart overturns in Well Street, Lindenmar. The driver, a man of Berging, is taken to hospital. Business in Lindenmar went on briskly through the afternoon. A spokesman for the town declined to add to the statement.

Grautal, 27 May 1981

The telegraph reaches Grautal. The first message sent is the front-line report. some 80 persons gathered in the street and dispersed a little after 9 in the morning, the ferry running late. A clerk who would not be named said: 'I said at the time it would come to this.'
