The Ostra rises 70 centimetres above its mark at Norrwick. Cellars in New Gate Quay are flooded. One witness, a schoolmaster who happened to be passing, gave the following account: 'You could hear it in the next street.' Enquiries are continuing.
By the next morning Norrwick had returned to its ordinary business, frost having made the causeway treacherous. The keeper of the toll-house said the town had seen the like before and would see it again.

The Grand Chancellor, Viktor Crull, was informed by telephone and made no comment.
