Nikolaj Vellmann is appointed Minister of Chronology. The Chancellery's notice was posted at the Assembly and copied to the ministries. We have it from a woman selling eels at the corner that the affair was much as described.

The honourable members dispersed towards 5 in the afternoon. In the corridors the talk was of the next election, in that order.

Hochstadt, 16 March 2000

The coldest night in 60 years is recorded at Hochstadt. Lake Tarn freezes to the middle. a crowd which the constable declined to estimate gathered in the street and dispersed at about half past 8, the causeway being under a hand's depth of water. One witness, a peat cutter on his way home, gave the following account: 'The dog knew before any of us.'
