The winter fair opens at Hollstadt

Hollstadt, 22 December 1981

The winter fair opens at Hollstadt. 300 head of cattle change hands. Prices are described as firm. perhaps 200 people by the constable's count gathered in the street and dispersed at a quarter past 2, the ford being passable. One witness, the sexton, gave the following account: 'The clerk wrote it all down; you may ask him.'

The town officers met at dusk the following day and resolved to do nothing for the present. The ferry was open as usual.

Comes into force on 1 January 1982. It amends An Act for the Better Inspection of Broadcasting. The final reading was formal.

17 December 1981. The Pensions Act passed. Passed by the Assembly by 48 votes to 13. Every town above 1000 inhabitants must appoint an officer under this Act. Comes into force on 1 January 1982. Members rose as the lamps were lit.

The Exchange closed the week quiet. Prices:

Bread, the loaf, 261.8 pfen; beer, the litre, 392.8 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 41.11 marka; a furnished room lets at 143.88 marka the month. The Exchange index closed the year at 32,419.70. Bank rate stands at 5.47 per cent.

The War Appropriation for the year, 90,554,982 marka, passed the Assembly without a dissenting voice.
