A picture house opens in Reed Row, Norrbruck, seating 500. The district officers attended late in the forenoon. One witness, a clerk who would not be named, gave the following account: 'I said at the time it would come to this.'

6 September 1981. The Technical Colleges Act passed. Passed by the Assembly by 33 votes to 19. Applies to children between 6 and 13. Comes into force on 1 January 1982. The final reading was formal.

1 September 1981. The Police (Amendment) Act passed. Passed by the Assembly by 46 votes to 5. Penalty on conviction: a fine of 126 marka or 4 months. It amends The Police Regulation Act. Members rose at a quarter past 3.

The Grand Chancellor, Andrea Wendl, has held office since 14 February 1979.

The Regional Court of The Ostrand, 3 September 1981. The Crown v. Fromm. Concerning assault at Norrbruck. Ruling: acquitted. Judgment was delivered at half past 4 in the afternoon.

The Regional Court of Norrfeld, 31 August 1981. The Crown v. Brenn. Concerning smuggling salt across the Sudmark. Ruling: fined 19637 marka. The parties left by separate doors.

The Market

Trading was thin on the Exchange this week. Published prices in the capital:

Bread, the loaf, 261.8 pfen; beer, the litre, 392.8 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 41.11 marka; a furnished room lets at 143.88 marka the month. The Exchange index closed the year at 32,419.70. Bank rate stands at 5.47 per cent.

The War Appropriation for the year, 90,554,982 marka, passed the Assembly without a dissenting voice.
