The telegraph reaches Brennholt
Brennholt, 28 February 1881
The telegraph reaches Brennholt. The first message sent is the front-line report. The town officers attended shortly before the evening bell. Speaking to this journal, the sexton said: 'We heard it from the far bank and thought it was the ferry.'
By the next morning Brennholt had returned to its ordinary business, the ferry running late. A woman selling eels at the corner said the town had seen the like before and would see it again.

The Grand Chancellor, Casimir Moor, has made no statement.
