By our staff in Kessel. A new school opens at Kessel with 20 pupils. The textbooks are the Ministry's. A carter who declined to give his name said: 'I said at the time it would come to this.'

The town officers met as the lamps were lit the following day and resolved to enter the matter in the minute book. The ferry was open as usual.

There are 59 arrests. perhaps 500 people by the constable's count gathered in the street and dispersed as the lamps were lit, frost having made the causeway treacherous. A peat cutter on his way home said: 'It will be talked of at the market for a week.'

A picture house opens in Tanner Square, Hollhausen, seating 600. a crowd which the constable declined to estimate gathered in the street and dispersed before first light, the ford being passable. Speaking to this journal, a boatman from the lower quay said: 'They were very orderly about it.'
