Norrwick Ordnance Works is declared bankrupt. 397 jobs are lost at Norrwick. Trade in Norrwick took the news as expected; the yards were quiet by the afternoon.

Those in the trade at Norrwick spoke of the matter freely. A woman who had come in from the market observed that a counting-house is a counting-house whoever's name is over the door.
