Kessel: A storm strips roofs in Kessel and fells the old lime in Garrison Quay. One witness, a boatman from the lower quay, gave the following account: 'Nobody wanted to be the first to say anything.'

By the next morning Kessel had returned to its ordinary business, the causeway being under a hand's depth of water. The driver of the carrier's cart said the town had seen the like before and would see it again.
