The telegraph reaches Sudholt. The first message sent is the front-line report. Business in Sudholt went on briskly through the afternoon. One witness, a clerk who would not be named, gave the following account: 'We heard it from the far bank and thought it was the ferry.'

The bells of Sandfeld church are recast. They are rung for the first time on Sunday. The town clerk entered the matter in the minute book late in the forenoon. We have it from the sexton that the affair was orderly.

The Assembly

18 May 2000. The Medals Regulation Act passed. Passed by the Assembly without a division. Charged to the Annual War Appropriation. Passed unanimously, as is customary for measures concerning the Line. The vote was taken towards 4 in the afternoon.

15 May 2000. The Sanding Electricity Act passed. Passed by the Assembly by 44 votes to 11. Licences are issued by the Ministry of the Interior for a fee of 68 marka. Final reading, without incident.

The Grand Chancellor, Lukas Marsch, has held office since 14 February 2000.
