Brenn & Histen Machine Works lists on the Vellmar Exchange as JAK. The listing was read out on the floor of the Exchange in the customary form and the brokers proceeded to business. A spokesman for the town declined to add to the statement.

Those in the trade at Vellmar spoke of the matter without surprise. A boatman from the lower quay observed that a counting-house is a counting-house whoever's name is over the door.

Gas lighting is installed in Short Row, Oberholt. Residents complain of the smell and the brightness. The parish officers attended at noon. We have it from a clerk who would not be named that the affair was much as described.

Bread, the loaf, 307.5 pfen; beer, the litre, 461.3 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 49.9 marka; a furnished room lets at 174.64 marka the month. The Exchange index closed the year at 30,541.60. Bank rate stands at 6.07 per cent.

The War Appropriation for the year, 110,422,307 marka, passed the Assembly without a dissenting voice.
