The autumn fair opens at Sudfurt

By our regional staff. The autumn fair opens at Sudfurt. 700 head of cattle change hands. Prices are described as firm. The district officers attended at dusk. The matter is expected to be raised in the Assembly.

The town officers met late in the forenoon the following day and resolved to enter the matter in the minute book. The school was open as usual.

The coldest night in 20 years is recorded at Marschau. Lake Tarn freezes to the middle. The town officers attended at noon. We have it from a clerk who would not be named that the affair was orderly.

By our correspondent in Oberholt. A new wing opens at the Oberholt hospital, with 30 beds. Speaking to this journal, a boatman from the lower quay said: 'They were very orderly about it.'

A new wing opens at the Tarnmoor hospital, with 20 beds. One witness, the keeper of the toll-house, gave the following account: 'You could hear it in the next street.' Local reaction was muted.

Piped water reaches Ostra Street, Weinwick. The old pump is retained by public request. A woman selling eels at the corner said: 'It will be talked of at the market for a week.' The matter is expected to be raised in the Assembly.

25 September 1985. An Act for the Better Inspection of Libraries passed. Passed by the Assembly by 52 votes to 7. Applies to children between 5 and 14. The debate was lively.

25 September 1985. An Act for the Better Improvement of Public Health passed. Passed by the Assembly by 41 votes to 20. Every town above 1000 inhabitants must appoint an officer under this Act. Comes into force on 1 January 1986. The final reading was formal.

22 September 1985. The Bridges (Amendment) Act passed. Passed by the Assembly by 45 votes to 9. Provides 246269 marka for works between Dammsee and Sudholt. It amends The Bridges Regulation Act. The final reading was formal.

The Exchange closed the week dull. Prices:

Bread, the loaf, 307.5 pfen; beer, the litre, 461.3 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 49.9 marka; a furnished room lets at 174.64 marka the month. The Exchange index closed the year at 30,541.60. Bank rate stands at 6.07 per cent.

The War Appropriation for the year, 110,422,307 marka, passed the Assembly without a dissenting voice.
