Gas lighting is installed in Salt Quay, Sanding. Residents complain of the smell and the brightness. Speaking to this journal, a woman who had come in from the market said: 'You could hear it in the next street.' A spokesman for the town declined to add to the statement.

The town officers met as the lamps were lit the following day and resolved to make a return to the Ministry of the Interior. The inn was open as usual.
