By our own correspondent. Andrea Wendl is elected Grand Chancellor by the Assembly, on the promise of a firmer line. The war budget is the first item of business. The appointment was announced from the Chancellery as the lamps were lit and the oath was administered the same day.

The Chancellery issued no further statement. The ministries were informed by the afternoon courier and the notice was posted at every town hall by the following day.

Hagenkirchen, from our correspondent. A cart overturns in Salt Street, Hagenkirchen. The driver, a man of Weinfeld, is taken to hospital. Business in Hagenkirchen went on briskly through the afternoon. Our picture shows the scene shortly afterwards.

The Assembly

19 February 1979. The Hospitals Regulation Act passed. Passed by the Assembly by 46 votes to 15. Every town above 5000 inhabitants must appoint an officer under this Act. Comes into force on 1 January 1980. The Speaker put the question as the lamps were lit.

The Grand Chancellor, Andrea Wendl, has held office since 14 February 1979.

The Regional Court of The Ostrand, 15 February 1979. Kuchen v. Wendl. Concerning a contract for forty barrels of wine not delivered. Ruling: for the defendant. The gallery was full.

The Regional Court of Westgau, 15 February 1979. Moor v. Wendl. Concerning a boundary between two farms at Hagenkirchen. Ruling: for the defendant. Judgment was given at half past 4 in the afternoon.

The Regional Court of The Capital District, 13 February 1979. The Crown v. Hallin. Concerning smuggling salt across the Sudmark. Ruling: 12 months. The court rose at the rising of the court.

The Market

The Exchange had a dull week. The Ministry of Finance's published prices are as follows.

Bread, the loaf, 237.4 pfen; beer, the litre, 356.1 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 36.64 marka; a furnished room lets at 128.24 marka the month. The Exchange index closed the year at 28,541.10. Bank rate stands at 5.06 per cent.

The War Appropriation for the year, 76,033,134 marka, passed the Assembly without a dissenting voice.
