26 May 1977. The Sanitation (Amendment) Act passed. Passed by the Assembly by 52 votes to 8. Every town above 5000 inhabitants must appoint an officer under this Act. Comes into force on 1 January 1978. It amends The Sanitation (Amendment) Act. The debate was short.

The Grand Chancellor, Viktor Crull, has held office since 14 February 1972.

The Courts

The Regional Court of Norrfeld, 29 May 1977. Brenn v. Birk. Concerning an unpaid debt of 2601 marka. Ruling: for the plaintiff, half the sum. Judgment was given when the court resumed after the midday adjournment.

The Market

A brisk week on the Exchange. Prices in the capital:

Bread, the loaf, 208.1 pfen; beer, the litre, 312.1 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 31.43 marka; a furnished room lets at 109.99 marka the month. The Exchange index closed the year at 22,201.90. Bank rate stands at 5.64 per cent.

The War Appropriation for the year, 68,474,678 marka, passed the Assembly without a dissenting voice.
