Gas lighting is installed in High Street, Weinau. Residents complain of the smell and the brightness. Word reached the market square within the hour and was the talk of it for the rest of the day. One witness, a carter who declined to give his name, gave the following account: 'They were very orderly about it.'

The bells of Hagenkirchen church are recast. They are rung for the first time on Sunday. The town officers attended before first light. We have it from a boatman from the lower quay that the affair was orderly.

The Exchange had a steady week. The Ministry of Finance's published prices are as follows.
Bread, the loaf, 181.5 pfen; beer, the litre, 272.3 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 26.9 marka; a furnished room lets at 94.14 marka the month. The Exchange index closed the year at 21,727. Bank rate stands at 4.98 per cent.
The War Appropriation for the year, 60,202,010 marka, passed the Assembly without a dissenting voice.
