Sudholt, from our correspondent. A page of a soldier's journal, undated but describing grass, is found in a Sudholt bookbinder's stock. It is seized. Among those questioned is a K. Wendl. The Ministry reminds the public of its duty under the Act. Our picture shows the scene shortly afterwards.

Officers of the Ministry of Chronology were present in the body of the court and left with the item under seal.

A cart overturns in Short Street, Tarnmoor. The driver, a man of Norrbruck, is taken to hospital. The bell was rung at the ferry and the townspeople turned out to see. Speaking to this journal, the driver of the carrier's cart said: 'You could hear it in the next street.'

The bells of Weinau church are recast. They are rung for the first time on Sunday. The district officers attended at a quarter past 5. A boatman from the lower quay said: 'The clerk wrote it all down; you may ask him.'

22 March 1971. The Tarnmoor Motorway Act passed. Passed by the Assembly by 45 votes to 10. Provides 158063 marka for works between Kessel and Vellmar. The debate was long.

21 March 1971. The Road Traffic Act passed. Passed by the Assembly by 35 votes to 25. Licences are issued by the Ministry of the Interior for a fee of 60 marka. The measure went through its final stages in an afternoon.

19 March 1971. An Act for the Better Improvement of Sanitation passed. Passed by the Assembly by 44 votes to 18. Every town above 1000 inhabitants must appoint an officer under this Act. Comes into force on 1 January 1972. The debate was long.

16 March 1971. The Causeway Timber (Amendment) Act passed. Passed by the Assembly without a division. Charged to the Annual War Appropriation. Passed unanimously, as is customary for measures concerning the Line. It amends The Hollstadt Causeway Timber Act. The measure went through its final stages in an afternoon.

The Grand Chancellor, Karl Brenn, has held office since 14 February 1965.

The Court of Chronological Offences, 22 March 1971. The Crown v. A. H.. Concerning possession of an unyear record (a ship's log). Ruling: acquitted: the year on the a school register was illegible. The gallery was closed for the reading.

The High Court, 21 March 1971. Mauker v. Brenn. Concerning a boundary between two farms at Dammsee. Ruling: boundary fixed at the old ditch. The court rose when the court resumed after the midday adjournment.

The High Court, 18 March 1971. Hirsch v. Fussmies. Concerning an article in The Evening Courier. Ruling: dismissed: fair comment. The court rose when the court resumed after the midday adjournment.

The Regional Court of Norrfeld, 22 March 1971. The Crown v. Rusk. Concerning smuggling salt across the Sudmark. Ruling: fined 33998 marka. The court rose at ten in the forenoon.

The Regional Court of The Sudmark, 19 March 1971. The Crown v. Grau. Concerning desertion from the Marsh Regiments. Ruling: acquitted: he was lost in the fog. The gallery was half empty.

The Market

The Exchange had a steady week. The Ministry of Finance's published prices are as follows.

Bread, the loaf, 170 pfen; beer, the litre, 255 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 25.33 marka; a furnished room lets at 88.65 marka the month. The Exchange index closed the year at 25,322. Bank rate stands at 4.16 per cent.

The War Appropriation for the year, 55,399,436 marka, passed the Assembly without a dissenting voice.
