Tarnmoor Ironworks is acquired by Bank of Ostrand. Trade in Tarnmoor took the news as expected; the yards were as usual by the afternoon.

The company's books are kept at Tarnmoor and may be inspected by shareholders on application at the registered office between 10 and 3 o'clock.

Gas lighting is installed in Old Gate Square, Salzhafen. Residents complain of the smell and the brightness. a small crowd gathered in the street and dispersed a little after 7 in the morning, the causeway being under a hand's depth of water. Speaking to this journal, a boatman from the lower quay said: 'They were very orderly about it.'

Bread, the loaf, 39.8 pfen; beer, the litre, 59.6 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 4.01 marka; a furnished room lets at 14.02 marka the month. The Exchange index closed the year at 4,425. Bank rate stands at 7.1 per cent.

The War Appropriation for the year, 6,872,270 marka, passed the Assembly without a dissenting voice.
