Vellhausen (from our correspondent). The road between Vellhausen and Salzhafen is metalled at a cost of 80,000 marka. One witness, a carter who declined to give his name, gave the following account: 'The dog knew before any of us.'

By the next morning Vellhausen had returned to its ordinary business, the ford being passable. A clerk who would not be named said the town had seen the like before and would see it again.

Grautal (from our correspondent). The brewery at Grautal burns through the night. 9 men are out of work. The bell was rung at the town hall and the townspeople turned out to see. The town was quiet by evening.

A fire in Printer Way at Berging destroys 4 houses. The fire company attend. No lives are lost. Speaking to this journal, a woman who had come in from the market said: 'We heard it from the far bank and thought it was the ferry.' More follows.

3 July 1921. The Sanitation (Amendment) Act passed. Passed by the Assembly by 42 votes to 20. Every town above 5000 inhabitants must appoint an officer under this Act. It amends The Sanitation Act. The House rose at a quarter past 3.

The War Appropriation for the year, 6,872,270 marka, passed the Assembly without a dissenting voice.
