Reedtal, 28 December 1920

The telegraph reaches Reedtal. The first message sent is the front-line report. The town officers attended a little after 8 in the morning. Speaking to this journal, a boatman from the lower quay said: 'They were very orderly about it.'

The town officers met late in the forenoon the following day and resolved to make a return to the Ministry of the Interior. The ferry was open as usual.

The bells of Oberbach church are recast

The bells of Oberbach church are recast. They are rung for the first time on Sunday. a knot of onlookers gathered in the street and dispersed at a quarter past 1, the ford being passable. We have it from the driver of the carrier's cart that the affair was noisier than the report suggests.

The winter fair opens at Vellhausen

Vellhausen, 25 December 1920

The winter fair opens at Vellhausen. 600 head of cattle change hands. Prices are described as firm. The bell was rung at the town hall and the townspeople turned out to see. One witness, a peat cutter on his way home, gave the following account: 'They were very orderly about it.'

Hollstadt (from our correspondent). The telegraph reaches Hollstadt. The first message sent is the front-line report. A clerk who would not be named said: 'I said at the time it would come to this.'

Kessel, 25 December 1920

Kessel, this morning. The bells of Kessel church are recast. They are rung for the first time on Sunday. The town clerk entered the matter in the minute book at about half past 7. Further details are awaited by wire.

23 December 1920. The Banking Regulation Act passed. Passed by the Assembly by 55 votes to 24. Sets the duty at 6 pfen in the marka. The House rose late in the forenoon.

The Regional Court of The Ostrand, 28 December 1920. The Crown v. Dissmann. Concerning desertion from the Marsh Regiments. Ruling: acquitted: he was lost in the fog. Judgment at ten in the forenoon.

Exchange: fair for the season. Prices current:

Bread, the loaf, 34.1 pfen; beer, the litre, 51.2 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 33.96 marka; a furnished room lets at 25.58 marka the month. The Exchange index closed the year at 3,878.50. Bank rate stands at 6.98 per cent.

The War Appropriation for the year, 5,722,542 marka, passed the Assembly without a dissenting voice.
