A new wing opens at the Salzhafen hospital, with 20 beds. The matter was the only talk at the inn that evening. One witness, a schoolmaster who happened to be passing, gave the following account: 'They were very orderly about it.'

A crowd of 3,000 watches the Pfahl match at Reedtal. There are 22 arrests. The roads about Reedtal were passable at the time. One witness, a woman who had come in from the market, gave the following account: 'It was over before the bell had done ringing.'

The bells of Hagenkirchen church are recast. They are rung for the first time on Sunday. a fair number of the townspeople gathered in the street and dispersed at noon, frost having made the causeway treacherous. One witness, a peat cutter on his way home, gave the following account: 'Nobody wanted to be the first to say anything.'

Vellmar, by wire. Gas lighting is installed in Star Row, Vellmar. Residents complain of the smell and the brightness. We have it from a schoolmaster who happened to be passing that the affair was much as described.

Bread, the loaf, 34.1 pfen; beer, the litre, 51.2 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 3.4 marka; a furnished room lets at 11.89 marka the month. The Exchange index closed the year at 3,878.50. Bank rate stands at 6.98 per cent.

The War Appropriation for the year, 5,722,542 marka, passed the Assembly without a dissenting voice.
