The brewery at Sudfurt burns through the night. 54 men are out of work. We have it from the sexton that the affair was orderly. The affair is much discussed in the town.

The matter will be raised at the next meeting of the town officers, when the ratepayers will hear of it in the usual form.

A new bridge is opened at Hollhausen by the Minister of the Interior. It has 2 arches. The town clerk entered the matter in the minute book a little after 6 in the morning. One witness, the landlord of the inn, gave the following account: 'The clerk wrote it all down; you may ask him.'

A cart overturns in Reed Street, Oberbach

Oberbach, 31 May 1890

We have received from Oberbach the following account. A cart overturns in Reed Street, Oberbach. The driver, a man of Hagenkirchen, is taken to hospital. One witness, a schoolmaster who happened to be passing, gave the following account: 'The dog knew before any of us.'

The road between Lindenmar and Sandfeld is metalled at a cost of 70,000 marka. The bell was rung at the ferry and the townspeople turned out to see. Speaking to this journal, a schoolmaster who happened to be passing said: 'The dog knew before any of us.'

The brewery at Salzhafen burns through the night. 33 men are out of work. The bell was rung at the ferry and the townspeople turned out to see. We have it from the driver of the carrier's cart that the affair was much as described.

A new school opens at Salzhafen with 70 pupils. The textbooks are the Ministry's. Speaking to this journal, a woman selling eels at the corner said: 'They were very orderly about it.' The affair is much discussed in the town.

The Assembly

28 May 1890. The Weights and Measures (Amendment) Act passed. Passed by the Assembly by 40 votes to 12. Sets the duty at 7 pfen in the marka. Comes into force on 1 January 1891. It amends The Weights and Measures Regulation Act. The honourable member who moved it was brief; the House divided and rose.

The Grand Chancellor, Hendrik Brenn, has held office since 14 February 1888.

The Courts

The Court of Chronological Offences, 1 June 1890. The Crown v. T. K.. Concerning assertion of the unyear in a public house at Vellmar. Ruling: acquitted: the witness was drunk. Argument took the morning.

The Regional Court of Westgau, 31 May 1890. Moor v. Serfeld. Concerning a boundary between two farms at Hollstadt. Ruling: for the plaintiff. The court was full; judgment was given late in the afternoon sitting.

The Regional Court of The Capital District, 30 May 1890. The Crown v. Nordmann. Concerning smuggling salt across the Sudmark. Ruling: 5 months. The court was full; judgment was given when the court resumed after the midday adjournment.

The Market

On 'Change the tone was dull; wine shares were firm. The close and the prices current follow.

Bread, the loaf, 13.7 pfen; beer, the litre, 20.5 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 0.99 marka; a furnished room lets at 3.46 marka the month. The Exchange index closed the year at 1,877.80. Bank rate stands at 3.58 per cent.

The War Appropriation for the year, 1,799,041 marka, passed the Assembly without a dissenting voice.

Deaths

Hendrik Ort, farmer, born at Kalkbruck on 18 March 1813, died 27 May 1890. Member of the Assembly. The deceased had been for many years a farmer at Kalkbruck. The funeral was largely attended.
