A new wing opens at the Salzhafen hospital, with 60 beds. One witness, a schoolmaster who happened to be passing, gave the following account: 'The dog knew before any of us.' We shall return to the matter.
The event is expected to be spoken of at the next market day, when the farmers come in from the surrounding country and the price of peat is settled for the month.

The road between Wasserdorf and Sandfeld is metalled at a cost of 40,000 marka. We have it from a boatman from the lower quay that the affair was noisier than the report suggests. Further particulars are held over.

The Regional Court of The Osmoor, 9 March 1884. The Crown v. Stinek. Concerning assault at Berging. Ruling: fined 962 marka. Argument took two days.

Bread, the loaf, 12.8 pfen; beer, the litre, 19.2 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 0.89 marka; a furnished room lets at 3.1 marka the month. The Exchange index closed the year at 1,577.90. Bank rate stands at 3.99 per cent.
The War Appropriation for the year, 1,505,182 marka, passed the Assembly without a dissenting voice.
