United Marsh Timber is founded at Salzhafen by Frida Schutzholt. Trade in Salzhafen took the news with interest; the yards were as usual by the afternoon.
The company's books are kept at Salzhafen and may be inspected by shareholders on application at the registered office between 10 and 3 o'clock.

Our correspondent at Sanding telegraphs as follows. The telegraph reaches Sanding. The first message sent is the front-line report. a crowd which the constable declined to estimate gathered in the street and dispersed at about half past 7, the roads being dry for the season. We shall return to the matter.

21 May 1858. The Sealed Archive (Amendment) Act passed. Passed by the Assembly by 61 votes to 0. Administered by the Ministry of Chronology. Offences under this Act are tried before the High Court. Comes into force on 1 January 1859. It amends The Sealed Archive Act. The honourable member who moved it was much interrupted; the House divided and rose.
The Grand Chancellor, Jorn Wendl, has held office since 14 February 1853.

The High Court, 17 May 1858. Wendl v. Voss. Concerning an unpaid debt of 1944 marka. Ruling: for the plaintiff, half the sum. Argument took the morning.
The High Court, 16 May 1858. Bauer v. Brenn. Concerning a contract for reed bundles not delivered. Ruling: contract void. Argument took the morning.
The Regional Court of The Ostrand, 17 May 1858. The Crown v. Oberst. Concerning smuggling salt across the Sudmark. Ruling: fined 48 marka. Argument took the morning.
The Regional Court of Kesselhöh, 17 May 1858. The Crown v. Hallolt. Concerning fraud on the Vellmar Exchange. Ruling: 7 months with hard labour. The court was full; judgment was given shortly after noon.
The Market
On 'Change the tone was quiet; railway shares were wanted. The close and the prices current follow.
Bread, the loaf, 9.7 pfen; beer, the litre, 14.6 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 0.5 marka; a furnished room lets at 1.74 marka the month. The Exchange index closed the year at 644.80. Bank rate stands at 2.28 per cent.
The War Appropriation for the year, 762,384 marka, passed the Assembly without a dissenting voice.

Deaths
Bertil Brenn, teacher, born at Tarnhausen on 8 November 1799, died 16 May 1858. Member of the Assembly. Known throughout Tarnhausen as a teacher of unbending habits. The service was read shortly before the evening bell and the trade attended in a body.
