General election for the Assembly, 1849

General election for the Assembly, 1849. 3 parties contest 63 seats in 7 regions. The Assembly Union wins the most seats with 23. Polling was orderly throughout the seven regions, the roads being dry for the season. The returns were carried to the Clerk of the Assembly by the usual couriers and read at a quarter past 5.

The honourable members dispersed at a quarter past 5. In the corridors the talk was of the appropriation, in that order.

The autumn fair opens at Wasserdorf

Wasserdorf, 29 September 1849

The autumn fair opens at Wasserdorf. 800 head of cattle change hands. Prices are described as firm. The town clerk entered the matter in the minute book at a quarter past 5. The driver of the carrier's cart said: 'They were very orderly about it.'

The Assembly

29 September 1849. The Ostrabruck Markets Act passed. Passed by the Assembly by 43 votes to 17. Sets the duty at 8 pfen in the marka. The honourable members proceeded to the measure with the House in good humour, and the member who moved it was heard in silence.

28 September 1849. The Oberholt Requisition Act passed. Passed by the Assembly without a division. Charged to the Annual War Appropriation. Passed unanimously, as is customary for measures concerning the Line. The honourable members proceeded to the measure with the House in good humour, and the member who moved it was heard in silence.

The Grand Chancellor, Magnus Orrel, has held office since 31 December 1845.

The Courts

The High Court, 30 September 1849. The Crown v. C. H.. Concerning assertion of the unyear in print. Ruling: 10 years and the press forfeit. The parties were represented and the ruling was read from the bench.

The Regional Court of Kesselhöh, 1 October 1849. Larer v. Stistholt. Concerning an unpaid debt of 1795 marka. Ruling: for the plaintiff, half the sum. The court sat in The Regional Court of Kesselhöh shortly after noon.

The Regional Court of Kesselhöh, 30 September 1849. Jost v. Brenn. Concerning an unpaid debt of 44 marka. Ruling: dismissed. The cause came on at ten in the forenoon and the court was cleared for the reading.

The Regional Court of The Ostrand, 26 September 1849. The Crown v. Arnholt. Concerning desertion from the Marsh Regiments. Ruling: acquitted: he was lost in the fog. The court sat in The Regional Court of The Ostrand when the court resumed after the midday adjournment.

The Market

The markets of the week have been firm, the ford being passable. The prices ruling in the capital are given below as sent up by the clerk of the market.

Bread, the loaf, 9 pfen; beer, the litre, 13.5 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 0.43 marka; a furnished room lets at 1.5 marka the month. The Exchange index closed the year at 564. Bank rate stands at 3 per cent.

The War Appropriation for the year, 549,263 marka, passed the Assembly without a dissenting voice.

Registers

The parish returns for the week, as sent up to the Registrar, are as follows. Recorded this week throughout the country: 104 births, 30 marriages, 55 deaths. Population at the last return, 192,983.

Deaths

Tomas Rabe, farm labourer, born at Sudfurt on 6 December 1782, died 27 September 1849. Member of the Assembly. A farm labourer of Sudfurt, and of a family long settled there. The interment takes place on Thursday at the parish ground.

Bertil Jann, miner, born at Vellmar on 7 January 1778, died 27 September 1849. Member of the Assembly. A miner of Vellmar, and of a family long settled there. The interment takes place on Saturday at the parish ground.
