From the War Ministry. Tomas Dorn of the Marsh Regiments is awarded the Line Medal for repairing the planking under fire. The decoration was gazetted in the customary form and will be presented at the depot.

The front line is at the Reed Line. No change. The War Ministry's roll for the week is printed in the usual place and the Ministry asks that enquiries from next of kin be addressed to the Records Office and not to this journal.

A fire in Old Gate Row at Wasserdorf destroys 6 houses

Wasserdorf, 25 October 1836

We are informed from Wasserdorf that the following has occurred. A fire in Old Gate Row at Wasserdorf destroys 6 houses. The volunteer brigade attend. No lives are lost. Business in Wasserdorf went on as usual through the afternoon. This journal has the account from more than one hand and has no reason to doubt it.

We are informed from Tarnmund that the following has occurred. The harvest at Tarnmund is reported the best in memory. Grain is 6 pfen the measure. The parish officers attended late in the forenoon. This journal has the account from more than one hand and has no reason to doubt it.

The Assembly

26 October 1836. The Turnpikes (Amendment) Act passed. Passed by the Assembly by 42 votes to 20. Provides 59976 marka for works between Berging and Norrhafen. Comes into force on 1 January 1837. It amends The Turnpikes (Amendment) Act. The honourable members proceeded to the measure with the House full, and the member who moved it was heard with some interruption.

The Grand Chancellor, Fedor Hallin, has held office since 14 February 1832.

The Courts

The Regional Court of The Sudmark, 25 October 1836. The Crown v. Meinnberg. Concerning theft of a printing press. Ruling: 4 months. The court sat in The Regional Court of The Sudmark shortly after noon.

The Market

Corn and provisions have been brisk; the following are the prices current in the capital.

Bread, the loaf, 7.6 pfen; beer, the litre, 11.5 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 0.32 marka; a furnished room lets at 1.13 marka the month. The Exchange index closed the year at 738.10. Bank rate stands at 3.96 per cent.

The parish returns for the week, as sent up to the Registrar, are as follows. Recorded this week throughout the country: 94 births, 35 marriages, 58 deaths. Population at the last return, 157,776.
