The spring fair opens at Ostrabruck

Intelligence has reached this office from Ostrabruck. The spring fair opens at Ostrabruck. 200 head of cattle change hands. Prices are described as firm. The district officers attended at dusk. This journal has the account from more than one hand and has no reason to doubt it.

The matter will be raised at the next meeting of the town officers, when the ratepayers will hear of it in the usual form.

Intelligence has reached this office from Norrwick. The Ostra rises 80 centimetres above its mark at Norrwick. Cellars in Weaver Street are flooded. The matter was the only talk at the market that evening. We shall not fail to lay before our readers whatever further intelligence may arrive.

The Assembly

9 May 1818. An Act for the Better Ordering of Company Registration passed. Passed by the Assembly by 34 votes to 20. Sets the duty at 4 pfen in the marka. The debate was short and the members for the regions took part in it.

6 May 1818. An Act for the Better Provision of Gaming passed. Passed by the Assembly by 41 votes to 15. Penalty on conviction: a fine of 284 marka or 11 months. The debate was short and the members for the regions took part in it.

The Grand Chancellor, Ottmar Oberst, has held office since 14 February 1818.

The Courts

The High Court, 9 May 1818. Rusk v. Gerst. Concerning a contract for coal not delivered. Ruling: damages of 233 marka. The cause came on when the court resumed after the midday adjournment and the court was thinly attended.

The Regional Court of The Ostrand, 10 May 1818. Holt v. Kathand. Concerning an article in The Schwartzistan Herald. Ruling: for the plaintiff, 233 marka. The cause came on at ten in the forenoon and the court was full.

The Regional Court of Norrfeld, 9 May 1818. Tarn v. Fenn. Concerning a contract for twelve mules not delivered. Ruling: contract void. The cause came on at ten in the forenoon and the court was thinly attended.

The Regional Court of Norrfeld, 7 May 1818. Lindholt v. Marrow. Concerning a boundary between two farms at Norrwick. Ruling: for the defendant. The cause came on at half past 3 in the afternoon and the court was cleared for the reading.

The Regional Court of The Ostrand, 4 May 1818. Sirer v. Klasen. Concerning an article in The Schwartzistan Herald. Ruling: apology ordered. The court sat in The Regional Court of The Ostrand shortly after noon.

The Regional Court of The Sudmark, 4 May 1818. Faker v. Birk. Concerning an unpaid debt of 233 marka. Ruling: dismissed. The cause came on at the rising of the court and the court was cleared for the reading.

The Market

The markets of the week have been quiet, the causeway being under a hand's depth of water. The prices ruling in the capital are given below as sent up by the clerk of the market.

Bread, the loaf, 7.8 pfen; beer, the litre, 11.7 pfen. A labourer's day is paid at 0.27 marka; a furnished room lets at 0.93 marka the month.
