Victory Square, 19 June 1834
The 23rd Victory Day parade ends at Victory Square in heat. The War Ministry estimates the crowd at 20,000. The year's casualty roll is read. The regiments marched past at dusk, the colours were dipped at the saluting base, and the reading of the roll took forty minutes by the Ministry's clock. The anthem closed the day.
The event is expected to be spoken of at the next market day, when the farmers come in from the surrounding country and the price of eels is settled for the month.
