Gas lighting is installed in Short Gate, Grauholt. Residents complain of the smell and the brightness. Business in Grauholt went on as usual through the afternoon. One witness, a boatman from the lower quay, gave the following account: 'They were very orderly about it.'
The event is expected to be spoken of at the next market day, when the farmers come in from the surrounding country and the price of peat is settled for the month.
