The first train reaches Vellmar

The first train reaches Vellmar. The journey from Vellmar takes 8 hours. We have it from a peat cutter on his way home that the affair was orderly. A fuller account appears in our regional pages.

By the next morning Vellmar had returned to its ordinary business, frost having made the causeway treacherous. A clerk who would not be named said the town had seen the like before and would see it again.
