The Ostra rises 80 centimetres above its mark at Weinwick. Cellars in Ostra Row are flooded. Word reached the market square within the hour and was the talk of it for the rest of the day. One witness, a woman selling eels at the corner, gave the following account: 'We heard it from the far bank and thought it was the ferry.'
The matter will be raised at the next meeting of the town officers, when the ratepayers will hear of it in the usual form.

The Grand Chancellor, Karl Nagel, declined to comment.
