The Ostra rises 40 centimetres above its mark at Marschau. Cellars in Printer Street are flooded. One witness, a schoolmaster who happened to be passing, gave the following account: 'I have lived here 60 years and I never saw the like.' A spokesman for the town declined to add to the statement.
The matter will be raised at the next meeting of the town officers, when the ratepayers will hear of it in the usual form.

The Grand Chancellor, Andrea Wendl, issued no statement.
