The winter fair opens at Sudholt

Sudholt. The winter fair opens at Sudholt. 500 head of cattle change hands. Prices are described as firm. One witness, the keeper of the toll-house, gave the following account: 'I have lived here 40 years and I never saw the like.'

By the next morning Sudholt had returned to its ordinary business, the ferry running late. A carter who declined to give his name said the town had seen the like before and would see it again.
