The first television set in Dammsee is demonstrated in the window of a shop in Old Gate Quay. A crowd gathers for the front-line report. The bell was rung at the town hall and the townspeople turned out to see. The keeper of the toll-house said: 'We heard it from the far bank and thought it was the ferry.'
The event is expected to be spoken of at the next market day, when the farmers come in from the surrounding country and the price of cattle is settled for the month.
