Oberholt marks the 600th anniversary of its charter with a procession along Tanner Quay

Oberholt, 19 January 1978

By our staff reporter, Oberholt. Oberholt marks the 600th anniversary of its charter with a procession along Tanner Quay. One witness, the sexton, gave the following account: 'Nobody wanted to be the first to say anything.'

By the next morning Oberholt had returned to its ordinary business, the causeway being under a hand's depth of water. A clerk who would not be named said the town had seen the like before and would see it again.

Those concerned: Oberholt (location); Tanner Quay (street).

The Grand Chancellor, Viktor Crull, was informed by telephone and made no comment.

Enquiries are continuing.
