The Ostra rises 30 centimetres above its mark at Hochstadt. Cellars in Tanner Street are flooded. A boatman from the lower quay said: 'The dog knew before any of us.' Enquiries are continuing.
The matter will be raised at the next meeting of the town officers, when the ratepayers will hear of it in the usual form.

The Grand Chancellor, Viktor Crull, was informed by telephone and made no comment.
