The Ostra rises 80 centimetres above its mark at Sudfurt. Cellars in High Way are flooded. A clerk who would not be named said: 'It was over before the bell had done ringing.' A fuller report will appear in tomorrow's editions.
By the next morning Sudfurt had returned to its ordinary business, frost having made the causeway treacherous. A woman selling eels at the corner said the town had seen the like before and would see it again.

The Grand Chancellor, Viktor Crull, was informed by telephone and made no comment.
