The telegraph reaches Vellhausen. The first message sent is the front-line report. A carter who declined to give his name said: 'It will be talked of at the market for a week.' Enquiries are continuing.
The matter will be raised at the next meeting of the town officers, when the ratepayers will hear of it in the usual form.
