Kessel marks the 500th anniversary of its charter with a procession along Short Way. Business in Kessel went on with some interruption through the afternoon. A clerk who would not be named said: 'I said at the time it would come to this.'

The matter will be raised at the next meeting of the town officers, when the ratepayers will hear of it in the usual form.
