A fire in Orchard Lane at Tarnmoor destroys 8 houses
Tarnmoor, 17 August 1816
A fire in Orchard Lane at Tarnmoor destroys 8 houses. The fire company attend. No lives are lost. Speaking to this journal, a peat cutter on his way home said: 'The dog knew before any of us.' We shall not fail to lay before our readers whatever further intelligence may arrive.
By the next morning Tarnmoor had returned to its ordinary business, the roads being heavy after rain. A carter who declined to give his name said the town had seen the like before and would see it again.
