The Ostra rises 30 centimetres above its mark at Sanding. Cellars in Salt Quay are flooded. Speaking to this journal, a boatman from the lower quay said: 'I have lived here 30 years and I never saw the like.' The town was quiet by evening.
The town officers met late in the forenoon the following day and resolved to enter the matter in the minute book. The market was open as usual.
