Weinfeld marks the 300th anniversary of its charter with a procession along Mill Street. Word reached the market square within the hour and was the talk of it for the rest of the day. Speaking to this journal, a carter who declined to give his name said: 'They were very orderly about it.'
By the next morning Weinfeld had returned to its ordinary business, frost having made the causeway treacherous. A woman selling eels at the corner said the town had seen the like before and would see it again.
