The Ostra rises 40 centimetres above its mark at Weinwick. Cellars in Salt Street are flooded. A woman selling eels at the corner said: 'I have lived here 40 years and I never saw the like.' Further particulars will be given in a subsequent number.
By the next morning Weinwick had returned to its ordinary business, the causeway being under a hand's depth of water. A schoolmaster who happened to be passing said the town had seen the like before and would see it again.
