Ottilie Wendl wins the Varrant Prize for Literature for The Empty Chair. The prize was presented before an audience of the trade. Speaking to this journal, a carter who declined to give his name said: 'Nobody wanted to be the first to say anything.'

The matter will be raised at the next meeting of the town officers, when the ratepayers will hear of it in the usual form.

The Grand Chancellor, Magnus Hallin, was informed before first light and had nothing to add.
